Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority and depending on the location, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: Prepare the draft of security plan for a specific area within the overall mission area of operations; Perform routine investigations or security assessments to ensure the safety of field staff to enter or return to a location where actual or suspected problems exist; Ensure that all staff members and are kept fully informed on matters affecting their security; conduct routine security surveys of office and residential areas and premises; Investigate and prepare reports on minor cases of theft, illegal entry, assault, or other incidents when the extent of the infraction is readily determinable; Assist higher grade Security Officers in establishing policies and procedures for reviewing crisis situations and preparing contingency plans for emergencies; Assist in the recruitment, training and supervision of local security guards; Assist in identifying and recording mission assets and number of staff to be protected, estimate number of guards required; Liaise with local authorities to discuss potential problems and plan possible methods of resolution; Serve as member of interdisciplinary team on matters of non-routine nature, such as mine removal, evacuations, medical emergency or hostilities that threaten the safety of staff; Perform other duties as assigned.

Professionalism-Good basic skills in security specialization to be able to recognize and evaluate the seriousness of threats and potential dangers; well-developed analytical skills; Planning and Organizing-God organization and co-ordination skills to plan and execute actions in response to security problems; Technology Awareness-Good computer skills and knowledge of associated electronic devices; Communications-Good communication skills to train other security and safety officers; Judgment and Decision making-Good judgment to deal with emergency situations such as hostile attack, evacuation, contagious disease, or natural disaster; Teamwork-Good interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with: mission directors, security officers in other agencies, specialist in other field related to security, representatives of local and national governments and the non-government community, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.



QUALIFICATIONS

Education
High school or equivalent diploma plus certification/diploma or other supplemental academic qualifications or training in military or police procedures and practices. Training in self-defense techniques.

Work Experience
At least 8 years of security experience within a national or international police, security or fire brigade organization.

Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English or French; knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage and sometimes a requirement. Fluency in the local language may be essential

  3. In completing the PHP, please note that all fields marked with an asterisk must be completed.

  4. UN staff members must submit scanned copies of their two latest Performance Appraisal System (PAS) reports at the time of application to the appropriate Human Resources Office (HRO)/Personnel Office (PO) to the email address below, clearly indicating the vacancy announcement number.
