Responsibilities
This position is located within the Joint Mission Analysis Center (JMAC), which is responsible for the management (collection, coordination, analysis and dissemination) of information in order to serve as a decision-making and planning tool for the Mission. Under the supervision of the head of Information Analysis Unit, the Information Analyst will be responsible for the following duties: 1) Perform the functions of permanent analyst to the JMAC; 2) Maintain up-to-date knowledge of events relating to political issues, ensure the monitoring of daily situation reports, military and UNAMID Police contingent reports, local news, and verbal updates, make effective use of statistical information; 3) Monitor and gather comprehensive information about events or actions that may affect the implementation of the Mission’s mandate; 4) Maintain and coordinate “Priority Information Requirements” with all relevant information collection units of the mission; 5) Select, classify and maintain relevant information in computerized databases and archives; 6) Ensure maintenance of a Mission-wide risk analysis, in coordination with existing Mission units and resources; 7) Support the UN Crisis Management Team, and respond to specific incidents as required; 8) Act as JMAC Team Leader for one of UNAMID’s three geographical sectors; 9) Maintain integrated database and conduct statistical analysis to identify trends and incident patterns; 10) Create, maintain and update personality and locality profiles; 11) Conduct risk analysis including assessments and projections on significant developments in the region on a regular basis; 12) Undertake conflict mapping to assess the conflict dynamics; 13) Perform other functions as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Political Science, Political Economy, International Relations, International Law, Public Administration, or related fields. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in international affairs, development, security, diplomacy, or foreign relations. Working experience in a field environment or in Peacekeeping operations is required. At least two years of relevant working experience in East Africa, and professional expertise in Darfur are also required. Proficiency in managing databases and processing data to produce information, support crisis management team, or programme management is required. Experience in drafting analytical reports for senior management is also required.

Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Working knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

  4. In completing the PHP, please note that all fields marked with an asterisk must be completed. Additionally, you are encouraged to fill in all relevant information required for a proper review of your profile.
  5. You may apply for all vacancies using the saved PHP. This PHP may be up-dated when necessary.

Your application will be screened and evaluated against the requirements set out in the vacancy announcement. In the event that you successfully complete the preliminary screening process, you will be contacted to further discuss your interest in working with UN peace operations. The next step would be consideration and interview for specific positions.
