Responsibilities
Under the direction of and in the conformity with the instructions received from the Chief Security Officer, the incumbent is generally responsible for conducting investigations and inquiries of the incidents and illegal activities involving civilian staff and military staff of the mission and other United Nations agencies. Detailed responsibilities are as follows: Undertake investigations and inquiries into security matters, illegal activities, accidents/incidents, complaints and allegations of misconduct, indiscipline, etc., in which members of the civilian staff of the mission and other United Nations agencies or members of their families maybe involved or implicated and prepare reports and records to the Chief Security Officer and the Chief Administrative Officer as necessary. Undertake spot checks of United Nations official vehicles and POVs of United Nations civilian staff and military observers at borders crossing points in order to detect and prevent smuggling and other illegal activities; undertake similar checks in regards of the United Nations aircraft. Carry out checks into the security of the combination and/or keys of safes and security cabinets and receptacles, and changes in combinations as required. In the performance of the above duties, maintain liaison as required with the local police and other national authorities and agencies in the mission area. Perform other assignments as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Completion of secondary education and relevant training in military and/or police procedures and practices.

Work Experience
Six years of experience in security, specifically in investigation.

Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English or French. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage and sometimes a requirement. Fluency in the local language may be essential.

  2. Go to Log-in, and Register as a User. Fill in the form and choose a User Name and Password.
  3. Once you are registered on-line, complete and save your Personal History Profile (PHP).
  4. In completing the PHP, please note that all fields marked with an asterisk must be completed. Additionally, you are encouraged to fill in all relevant information required for a proper review of your profile.
  5. You may apply for all vacancies using the saved PHP. This PHP may be up-dated when necessary.

Your application will be screened and evaluated against the requirements set out in the vacancy announcement. In the event that you successfully complete the preliminary screening process, you will be contacted to further discuss your interest in working with UN peace operations. The next step would be consideration and interview for specific positions.

Because of the high volume of applications received, the screening process can take several months, so please do not become discouraged. Please know that your application to a generic vacancy announcement for a specific occupational group and your expression of interest in serving in specific locations or missions will enable you to be considered for all positions for which you are qualified. Your application to a generic vacancy announcement will remain valid for one year. You need not reapply within that period.
