Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff, in the office of the Chief of Staff, the International Translator/Interpreter will perform the following duties: Translate from Somali into English and vice versa documents covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia, i.e, political, legal, humanitarian, financial, administrative and technical, ensuring that all deadlines are met and the quality of translation is adequate. Provide accurate and complete high quality consecutive and simultaneous interpretation into Somali from English, or from Somali into English, as and when the need arises. This includes interpreting during meetings with high-ranking officials, press events and conferences; May supervise the work of a small group of interpreters/translators; May perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in translation/interpretation or other related area. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
At least 5 years experience in the interpretation and translation fields; experience in simultaneous interpretation is required.

Languages
Languages required for this post are English and Somali (interpretations and translations are done from English into Somali and from Somali into English). A thorough command of both languages is required.
